Supporting Charities and Communities

Our official charity for 2019 is the Alzheimer’s Society. In the South West area there are over 81,000 people with dementia and it is predicted that this figure will rise to over 106,000 by 2021. The South West has the highest number of people living with dementia in the West, however, it also has the lowest diagnosis rate. Last year we supported Dame Hannah Rogers in Devon and previously we have supported charities including the Teenage Cancer Trust and St Luke’s Hospice. Applied Automation also sponsor a number of local sports teams.

We want to make sure Applied is a great place to work and are committed to the fair and ethical treatment of our employees.

Applied has a strong leadership team and aims to create a pleasant, suitable and safe environment for everyone in the workplace.

We value our employees and support their personal development. Working with local schools and colleges, we offer placements for students to give them an insight into engineering and help them decide their future. Applied is committed to supporting the teaching of STEM subjects in schools and takes part in outreach activities.

Being a Responsible Business

We make sure our business is conducted according to rigorous ethical, professional and legal standards. We aim to minimise the impact our activities have on the environment and are committed to reducing our carbon footprint.

Both of our sites have video conferencing facilities to reduce car journeys and we use remote access technology to reduce engineer site visits in the UK and overseas. We support employees working from home where feasible.

We have a sustainable approach to procurement and we continue to improve the way we manage our waste. Since September 2017 we are proud to be a ‘zero waste to landfill’ site. As well as mix recycling collections, we separate out all cardboard, acrylic, polycarbonate and most PVC which are recycled through specialist recycling plants. To further maximise the use of our waste, we now have a partnership with Plymouth Play Scrapstore who make regular collections for various materials which they use for community art projects.

Modern Day Slavery

In 2015 the Government introduced the Modern Day Slavery Act. It aims to prevent slavery and human trafficking in today’s modern business world.

We are not required by law to comply with this Act as we do not have a total turnover threshold of £36 million or more. However, as a responsible business we are wholly supportive of this legislation and will comply fully with its requirements.
